Former Elkhorn South Stars Face Off in Nebraska Classic, A Volleyball Showdown with a Touch of Rivalry

A Night of High-Stakes Volleyball

Former Elkhorn South High School volleyball stars will reunite on the court for a rivalry match in the Nebraska Classic. The annual tournament brings together some of the state's top teams and players, and this year's event will feature a special matchup between two Elkhorn South graduates: Mikaela Foecke and Lexi Sun.

Foecke, a two-time Olympic medalist and former Husker star, will lead the Creighton Bluejays against Sun, a three-time All-American and current Gopher, with the University of Minnesota. Both players were key members of Elkhorn South's state championship team in 2014, and they have gone on to achieve great success at the collegiate and international levels.

A Rivalry Renewed

The Nebraska Classic will be a chance for Foecke and Sun to relive their high school rivalry. The two players were teammates on the Elkhorn South team that won the state championship in 2014, but they have since become fierce competitors at the collegiate level.

Foecke helped lead the Creighton Bluejays to the NCAA Tournament in 2021, while Sun helped the Minnesota Gophers reach the Final Four in 2022.
